U4GM: Turn Average Amulets into Great Ones with Chaos Slamming in POE 2

There's a point in every POE 2 crafting session where the item starts looking either expensive or doomed.

There's a point in every POE 2 crafting session where the item starts looking either expensive or doomed. Amulets hit that point fast. If you're planning to chaos slam for +3 spell skill levels, you need a base worth gambling on, a bit of nerve, and enough POE 2 Currency to keep going when the rolls get ugly.

Setting Up the Base

I'd start with a magic amulet that already has one mod you actually care about. Don't overthink it. Cast speed, spirit, attributes, or another build-specific suffix can all make sense. The trick is buying something clean and cheap enough that a failed attempt doesn't ruin your day. After that, you regal it, prepare the mod pool, and look for a decent fracture. A fractured good suffix makes the whole craft feel less random, even though it's still very much a dice roll.

Quick Crafting Route

  • Pick a useful amulet base with a mod your build wants.
  • Use a Regal Orb to add another modifier before fracturing.
  • Desecrate a bad modifier if possible to improve the fracture setup.
  • Fracture the item and keep going only if the result is worth the cost.
  • Chaos slam until +3 to spell skill levels appears.

The desecration step is easy to skip, but I wouldn't. When one unwanted modifier is taken out of the fracture choice, your odds feel a lot less painful. It's not magic, and it won't save every base, but it does make the attempt cleaner. If the fracture misses badly, sell the item, recycle it, or cut your losses. Good crafters don't win every roll. They just stop feeding bad ones.

Where The Chaos Orbs Go

Once you're chaos slamming, patience matters more than confidence. Some players hit +3 in under a hundred Chaos Orbs. Others get dragged through several hundred and start questioning their build, their league, and their life choices. If you do hit +3, pause for a second. Don't instantly slam more currency because you're excited. Check the open affixes, think about what suffix or prefix still matters, then decide if an Exalted Orb is worth the risk.

Finishing Without Getting Greedy

After the big spell level roll lands, the craft becomes a judgement call. Life regen might look boring, but on Blood Mage-style setups it can be genuinely useful. Energy Shield, increased Energy Shield, spirit, or attributes can also turn a decent amulet into something people will actually search for. Catalysts are worth using once the item has a clear identity. Price it against similar listings, not fantasy mirror-tier pieces. If you need more materials or want to compare market costs, checking POE2 Currency for sale can help you judge whether another attempt is sensible or just stubborn crafting tilt.
